Bosom buddies: Victoria Beckham gets very hands on as she helps to protect Eva Longoria's modesty

We all need that one good friend who will tell you when your make-up is smudged, your tights have laddered or when you're flashing a little bit too much to the world.

And Victoria Beckham proved to be that friend to Eva Longoria last night as she protected her modesty from the cameras.

The fashion designer was sitting with the Desperate Housewives star at a charity bash last night when she took it upon herself to strategically placed her hands over the actress's plunging neckline.

As they posed for a picture, Eva's breasts could have been seen by all and sundry if it wasn't for the former Spice Girl and her quick thinking.

And Victoria, 37, couldn't help but smirk as Eva flashed a smile for the cameras while she held steady over Eva's breasts, which were now in no danger of making an appearance.

The pair were at a party thrown by Vanity Fair and Chrysler on behalf of The Eva Longoria Foundation, which was held at the actress's restaurant Beso in Hollywood.

And you'd have thought that Victoria would be surrounded by a team of make-up artists ahead of her attending the star-studded party.

But she's just a simple, down-to-earth girl like the rest of us who prefers the sanctuary and familiarity of her own bathroom in which to get ready and touch up our eye-liner

However not all of us would be brave enough to take a picture of ourselves slapping on the war paint ahead of a big night out.

But then again, not all of us look as good as the fashion designer who posted a photo of herself getting ready at home before heading out to a charity bash.

Someone - possibly husband David - took a picture of Victoria, 37, applying her eye make-up in the mirror of her bathroom as she got ready to attend a party thrown by her friend Eva Longoria and Vanity Fair.

And as she posted the photo, Victoria wrote: 'Getting ready for @Vanityfair @Evalongoria Foundation event, wearing favourite dress from AW12! Xvb.'

And also attending was fellow Brit Kate Beckinsale who also looked delighted to see her friend from home.

As the girls posed for a picture together, you could see that the last two weeks have taken their toll on poor Victoria, who looked very glamorous, but rather tired and she barely managed to raise a smile.

Hardly surprising though - she has been busy with her new collection for New York and London Fashion Week and is also being a doting mum to her seven-month-old daughter Harper.

But even though she probably was dying to kick off her heels get into her comfy clothes and have a nice quiet evening on the sofa, she managed to come out and support her good friend.

She looked very slender as she stood at her bathroom sink and applied liner in her blue dress with her trademark black zip up the back.

She was greeted warmly by Eva, 36, who she first met when she moved to Los Angeles four years ago when David signed for LA Galaxy.

Meanwhile, Eva's Desperate Housewives co-star Felicity Huffman also came out to support her co-star on the arm of her husband William H. Macy.

The 49-year-old star also slipped into a little black dress, albeit one more demure.

Cuddling up to her actor hubby of almost 15-years, Huffman looked sophisticated and sexy in an off-the-shoulder ruched number.

Former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Kathleen Robertson flaunted plenty of her pins in a very short hot pink frock paired with beige booties and matching clutch.

Tonight's celebration comes after Eva also hosted a pre-Oscars charity flamenco event at her restaurant last night.

And once again with her plunging black see-through blouse, Eva only just covered her modesty.

The actress sizzled in the top, which plunged almost down to her navel, with carefully placed material only just stopping the star's top half from being completely visible.

Teamed with a pair of simple black trousers, the actress teamed the eye-catching outfit with hair braided to the side and smoky eye make-up.

'On my way to Beso! For Gitana night!' she tweeted underneath the photograph.

The actress seemed in good spirits as she posed for photographs alongside Extra host and actor Mario Lopez.

Eva was joined by her toyboy boyfriend Eduardo Cruz who wore a black hat and white shirt and they looked in good spirits as they left the restaurant together.

Eva recently spoke of her joy at being in a relationship with the younger man, brother of actress Penelope, following her divorce from basketball player Tony Parker.

'Love did not work with that person [Tony]. But it can work with another,' she told Vanity Fair.

'The only thing I will say is I was very lucky to find Edu.'

Meanwhile, it has been announced that Eva will join Harold and Kumar star Kal Penn as a co-chair of President Barack Obama's reelection campaign.

According to E! News, Eva and Kal will be 'using their showbiz clout' to drum up support for the president in his re-election bid.

Both stars have been long time Obama supporters with Eva telling Jimmy Kimmel on his show last year: 'It's a special privilege to meet our commander-in-chief. I'm a big Obama supporter no matter what he's been through. He's been beaten up the past couple of years.'.
