Liverpool advance after early FA Cup scare
Reds fight back from a goal down to comfortably beat Oldham in FA Cup third round
Liverpool survived an early FA Cup third-round scare and fought back from a goal down to beat Oldham 5-1 at Anfield on Friday.
Robbie Simpson gave the League One club a shock 1-0 lead courtesy of a 30-yard strike in the 28th minute.
But the hosts responded two minutes later through Craig Bellamy before Steven Gerrard put Liverpool in front on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot.
Oldham could not prevent the seven-times FA Cup champions from extending their lead after the break as Jonjo Shelvey netted in the 68th minute before Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing added late goals to wrap up a comprehensive win.
