That transfer deadline countdown clock is switching from days to hours now, and if Carlos Tevez is to make the switch from Manchester to Milan, they're cutting it fine.
You thought that one was dead in the lido? Not according to chatter in the Italian capital of football and fashion, where Carlos' snood would probably not attract a second glance.
Adrian Del Monte, the man from forzaitalianfootball.com, has been peering over his shades at the Italian prints as he sips his espresso overlooking the piazza.
He reports: "Although Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has said that the arrival of Maxi Lopez from Catania will mean Carlos Tevez will not be joining the club before next summer, today’s Italian sports papers claim Silvio Berlusconi’s club are ready to launch a new bid for the City star.
"According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the key is an €8m penalty Milan would have to pay the Citizens if they decide not to make the player’s move permanent next summer.
"It’s widely known that the Rossoneri offered City a loan deal for the player with the option to buy. However, president Berlusconi is not convinced by this deal, but Galliani will reportedly meet with him today about this matter."
How come the change of mind? Adrian reckons: "This new push for Tevez is allegedly tied to Filippo Inzaghi’s desire to leave the club in January."
Dominic King writes in the Mail: "Andy Carroll is ready to fight to save his Liverpoolcareer after the Anfield club emphatically dismissed stories they wanted to swap him for Carlos Tevez.
"As questions continue to hang over the England striker’s suitability for Kenny Dalglish’s team, sources in Manchester revealed a deal was mooted which would have seen Carroll and Tevez switch clubs, but Liverpool said the stories were ‘fundamentally and completely untrue’."
However, Mirror man Alan Nixon says Dalglish wants Tevez on loan: "Dalglish’s club have made a cheeky approach for the Argentinian, who could play for them in their push for the top four and both cup competitions."
Incoming? Roberto Mancini is playing it cool. As usual. Don't hold your breath.
