Mr. Torres Good Bye

Chelsea and Liverpool drive astonishing £134 million manic Monday

The British transfer record was smashed twice yesterday when Fernando Torres joined Chelsea and Andy Carroll signed for Liverpool as the window closed in an avalanche of activity.

Between them the two clubs spent a record £134 million in just one day. Chelsea finally signed Torres for a deal that could ultimately be worth £50 million, and Benfica’s David Luiz for £25 million, while Liverpool spent a remarkable £36 million on Carroll and £23 million on Luis Suárez.
All four deals were completed with just moments to spare, with Torres and Carroll not signing their contracts until around 10.50pm, 10 minutes before the deadline.
Torres immediately targeted success in the Champions League with his new club.
“It’s my dream to win the Champions League and I’m sure I can, playing for Chelsea,” he said. “I think all my team-mates share that dream with me.
